Nuclear Society Council

The 2006 International Nuclear Societies Council (INSC)

Award was conferred to Mr. Jorge Spitalnik (Brazil)

The Global Award of the International Nuclear Societies Council (INSC) was established to honor an individual or program group whose international professional efforts in developing nuclear technology utilization in a sustainable manner aimed at contributing to the welfare of society in compliance with the ethical principles of their profession.

INSC has a membership of more than 40 Nuclear Societies from the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Pacific Ocean Region, representing more than 100,000 professionals working in the nuclear field around the world.

The Global Award is being granted every two years and, in the current year of 2006, the INSC Member Societies unanimously selected Mr. Jorge Spitalnik, from Brazil, to receive the Award in a solemn ceremony on 11th November 2006, at Albuquerque, USA.

The Award highlights “his exceptional leadership and pioneering role in implementing nuclear manpower qualification and nuclear safety programs towards high standards of excellence in developing countries, and his outstanding contributions to the establishment of international organizations promoting the encouragement and appreciation of nuclear professionals´ activities worldwide”.

This is the 5th Global Award granted by INSC and the 1st time it is awarded to a Latin American professional. Previous recipients are: Hans Blix (Sweden), L. Manning Muntzing (USA), Takashi Mukaibo (Japan) and Wang Naiyan (China).

Whereas the INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR SOCIETIES COUNCIL (INSC) GLOBAL AWARD has been established to honor an individual or program group whose international professional efforts in developing nuclear technology utilization in a sustainable manner for the welfare of society in accordance with the principles of the INSC Global Creed,
Whereas such utilization should be conducted in such a way that the enhancement of public health and safety and environmental protection are integral and essential components of those efforts,
Whereas the INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR SOCIETIES COUNCIL GLOBAL CREED stipulates that Nuclear Professionals should uphold and advance the integrity, honor, and dignity of their profession by:

“Promoting the involvement of Societies and professionals worldwide in the quest of excellence and quality in the application of nuclear science and technology for the service of humanity,

“Promoting the use of their knowledge and skills for the enhancement f human welfare by furthering public health and safety and environmental protection in the implementation of nuclear projects and programs,

“Enhancing the peaceful uses and application of nuclear science and technology,

“Ensuring the public is informed of the facts surrounding nuclear science and technology in an objective and truthful manner,

The INTERNATIONAL NUCLEAR SOCIETIES COUNCIL confers herewith its
